Introduction

Vintage Postcard Stock Imagery in the Public Domain

I had been collecting postcards passively for many years and then I inherited my grandmother and great-grandmother's postcard collections. After sorting through them, I found many duplicates and placed them up for sale on eBay. I had one vintage postcard, printed prior to 1923, that a potential buyer liked, but he or she only wanted to buy a high-resolution scan of it, not interested in buying the physical postcard. So, I checked my scanner's specifications and found that it had an optical resolution of 4800x4800 pixels, much higher than the buyer had asked for. So, I scanned both front and back of the postcard at 600dpi, as requested, accepted the PayPal payment, placed the two TIFF files on my DropBox account and shared the folder with the buyer. It was a nice and smooth transaction and I hadn't really given much further thought to that process.

I remembered that transaction recently and decided that it was worthy of trying that again with some of my more interesting postcards which are from prior to 1923. By being of that age, those that were printed in the United States are no longer covered by copyright laws and are considered to be in the Public Domain.

So, this webpage and its spawning webpages will go through an evolution of sorts, until I figure out what look-and-feel I like the most for them. You are able to make the purchase of a high-reolsution scan, with payment being made through PayPal and as before, I will post and share the imagery from my DropBox account. Expect that the shared link will have a time limit of between three days and seven days.

If you have any special requests, feel free to email me at my address in the sidebar menu at left. I literally have thousands of postcards, with many of them being prior to 1923.
